Plan B. Use plans.

Okay, my construction skills are not quite there yet, so to avoid a Giant disaster, I'm going to modify the Fascination Station from HBS/miniatures.com for the I'm a Giant challenge. I bought the kit at the beginning of the year for the Creatin' Contest, but after test fitting it, it has been taking up space in the garage ever since. Now I'm going to try to crank it out to meet both December deadlines.
The dollhouse kit has an angled roof that didn't fit my design for the house, so off with the roof. My handy husband set up a jig to cut off the pitch in the roof for a nice flat version I can add a second story to. I'm getting excited now that we have walls and a roof. The clock is ticking but I'm hoping it will come together quickly. We shall see.

One warning when dry fitting with tape... don't use plain masking tape. The blue tape is fine, but everywhere I used regular masking tape, it pulled off part of the MDF and left rough spots that don't sand well and look pretty bad especially after paint. Sigh. Live and learn. I'm just excited to finally be building!

  1. No pressure then =0)

At least you have a fair amount of furniture to choose from (which I think is the main stumbling block for other challengers)

Good luck. I'm sure it will be fabulous when it's finished

  2. I have been struggling - I mean working - with this kit, too. I look forward to seeing what you do with yours!

  3. Hey Pepper Luckily I have furniture and accessories galore, the house will be the tricky part.

Sandra Your house is looking great. That tile cutter is a great idea. Hats off to you hubby for that great tip. I'm looking forward to watching your progress. I tried leaving a comment on your blog, but I got an error message that the page didn't exist when I submitted the comment. Cool changes so far.

  4. Use a wood filler after you have primed the MDF. This will fill in the 'rough' voids. Then sand level with a sanding block, and then prime again. Now you'll be ready for paint.
    Good luck!

  5. Paris!!!
Brilliant! Thanks so much for the advice, I will definitely try that. Great tip!!!

  6. Often when looking back at my pictures closely I see tape marks. That;s the thing with mini peeps. They pay attention to the details!
Can't wait to see it finished!C
