Makeshift Lighting Rig

Using the lighting rig from my lightbox tutorial, I added some 36" plain-end PVC pipes to the top and maneuvered it around my house. The first picture is before the lighting set up, next the lights and voila, much better pictures. I still have a lot to learn (lights are too close, need to better adjust filters, etc.), but I will post a real tutorial with lighting tips from my photographer brother later. I threw this together so I could share these pics quickly and get to the bigger news of an upcoming Giveaway!

Now it looks like natural light is shining through the window onto the ultra modern xmas tree (Doris gave me the tree, I keep forgetting to ask where she got it, isn't it awesome?).

Click on the photos to see a close up of the Stag Head. Yes, it is amazing and you can get it here. I came across this life size version that is no longer available, but this 6"/150mm tall version is here and is a great size for an ornament. I contacted the designer Dotsan and he eagerly agreed to make a 1:12 scale version for us enthusiasts. It took a few revisions to get the smaller scale version to be printable through Shapeways, but now it is available in black and white for under $14. Check out the is 3"/75mm tall version here. (There's a cool video of the larger scale one that I wish was available, but was too difficult for the company to make, so my mini version will have to suffice.)

Peter Tucker @ Good Sam

From Vancouver British Columbia, Peter Tucker and his wife Jeremie were back again this year. My photos of his lights weren't so hot, so I'm using these from his site. I loved his new chandeliers. Peter had made some of the table lamps with LEDs powered by watch batteries, so no need to deal with electrical.

I'm a sucker for "1-of-a-kind" so I bought this side/coffee table. I just used it in a room and will be posting soon (hopefully). It was a pleasure seeing Peter and Jeremie again. They are so nice and fun to talk with.

I really love his art deco inspired pieces and I adore his Nelson style modern bench. I'm looking forward to seeing Peter and Jeremie at the next show.

Good Sam Show Oct 15-16 with Paris Renfroe and Peter Tucker

Paris Renfroe, PRDminiatures.com, and Peter Tucker, roomboxes.com, will both have booths at the upcoming Good Sam Show in San Jose. If you are in the Bay Area this is the biggest miniatures show around. I'm not sure which day I'm going, but anyone interested in a meet up?

Peter Tucker at Good Sam

Peter Tucker from Vancouver BC Canada has been handcrafting fine furniture from Arts and Crafts to modern eras since 1998. I've been a huge fan of his work for years, so it was incredible to meet him in person and discuss his work and the modern movement. He re-creates classic pieces and his own designs, and creates many custom pieces from photos or sketches. Peter is well known for his custom roomboxes and also builds doll houses. I think his florescent and LED lights are truly amazing and they all are his original designs.



Obviously my pictures are nowhere near impressive as Peter's photos on his website (as the roombox photo on the left), but it was really cool seeing his lights and work in person. The details on his furniture are so intricate, making all of his pieces truly works of art.
