What are you working on?

I love to see what other people are working on. Here is a dollhouse Melissa has been working on that she built from scratch. The size is 3/4 scale, she wanted to utilize all of the vintage plastic dollhouse items she has been collecting.

Here is some information from Melissa on her dollhouse:

The kitchen stools are made from door pulls. The island she built from scratch. The dining room table she made. End tables, fireplace, fire pit, plants and pictures she made (pictures are taken from good quality art books or magazines). Melissa also built the credenza by the front door.

The carpets are made from plastic placemats (you can sometimes get them on sale at TJ Maxx or even at Walmart). The living room floor is made from the cheapest (and easiest to cut) peel and stick tiles you can get at any hardware store). She decided on the wood floor (dollhouse store) but used double sided tape to put down. She has had a difficult time with the store bought floors... as they always seem to warp on her, but so far, so good.

Melissa is working on the second floor which will have the master bedroom and bath and possibly a deck on top too.

Melissa sent me these photos last September, so she's probably close to finished by now. I'm eons behind in posts, but I'm trying to spend more time catching up. More to come on Chicago International, HBS contest and my newest furniture designs. I'm also working on a video tutorial and updating the where to buy dollhouses page. Sadly several of the houses listed are no longer available, but I do have more new miniaturists to add to the where to buy mini pages.

  2. Excellent work! I, too, enjoy seeing other people's projects, and often ask my customers to send me photos of theirs. I love seeing the creative things they do. Thanks for sharing. It's a wonderful dollhouse, and I can't wait to see it finished.

  4. Does Melissa have her own blog? I would love to see how the house is finished - I too am using a ton of the Imagination Marx furniture. I've painted some pieces to bring out the detail.

  5. Hey there jilliebeans - Still working on this one. I have pretty much finished the first floor (I live in two places so I have different dollhouses in different states!!!). I have so many of the smaller scale dollhouse furniture pieces too...I need to use them so I am making smaller dollhouses to put them in. The great thing is that at the hardware store you can now purchase spray paint that adhere to plastic. I don't have my own blog because there is this blog....people would be frustrated with me because it would take forever for me to post stuff. And I just love her blog with all of the information and great ideas posted. I will send Megan the finished pictures when I get done.

  6. Please let me know when you have updates! I also spruce up the old Marx half scale and also, now my new obsession is the blue-box furniture. I've successfully used the Krylon fusion paint you described, but when I'm doing small things like chairs or knobs, I've found the Testor's model paint works well too.
