I'm a Giant crazy person

It has been a mad dash to the finish line, but for now, all I can say is PHEW!!!

After more snafus (I'll tell ya later), the Fashion House was in one piece Tuesday night (the 13th) at 11pm. I ransacked all of my minis and started decorating. At 2am, I tore the garage to pieces trying to find my mini rugs (we moved a few months ago and I haven't unpacked everything yet). After 20 minutes of pillaging, I found my rugs in the bottom of the last box. Sigh. After many variations and changes these are the final rooms I came up with. Most of the minis are PRD miniatures or minimodernistas along with accessories I've made and other ebay/dollhouse show items. By 4am I was able to take pictures (I'll post more later) for the challenge and contest. Then I cleaned up the giant mess before the kids woke up at 6:30am. After 2 hours of sleep I packed our bags and the kids and we flew cross country for the holidays. I am still tired. I wish I had more time with the house, but I won't see it for a few weeks. I will post more details when I return, as internet access is limited out here in the sticks.

Emily, thank you for the motivation, but I'm so glad the challenge is over. HBS Miniatures, my contest submission is on its way.

Now to enjoy visiting family for the holidays. I'll post more pictures when I can.

  2. Fantastic house! Nice clean lines, good use of space and a wonderful juxtaposition between the dark, white and transparent walls. Love that transparent staircase and the big paintings on the upstairs walls. Great!

  6. Jeannette Thanks so much! Despite being deliriously tired, I think the photos came out pretty great. Phew!

Josje I love dark on white. I'll post pictures of the inspiration houses I used to come up with this one when I get back. I made the staircase and paintings are all PRD Miniatures, I'll post more details on accessories and stuff after the holidays.

Hey Neomi Thanks! I just needed a kick in the pants to get motivated to complete the project, but it will probably be a few more months before I complete all of the little finishing touches. Glad you like it.

Pepper I think I've finally figured out how to paint correctly, but it was tricky doing black on one side and white on the other. Several spills and touch ups. I made a few mistakes on the trim that I'll post about later, but I'm really liking the black.

Mad for Mod The stairs were a royal pain. I will post more info on how I made them when I get back from vacation. I had the pieces cut and polished at Tap Plastics from 1" square bar, and then 1" acrylic for the landing. Then glued with Seal All and a gluing jig. I had to break them apart a few times because my measurements were off to get them to the second floor. More to come on that later.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments, I'm so glad people like it. It's just been me in the garage with this baby, so it's nice to take it out for test drive. :P

I'm experimenting with yellow on those Reed chairs this weekend...we'll see how it goes. Anyway, congrats on finishing this!

  16. I love your color sense. That's my favorite color of green. Got the Emerson house as a Christmas present - husband is filing things to fit right now as it's a little wonky in places - my first modern house! So I'm here for inspiration, and you never disappoint.

  18. This is LOVELY. I am new-ish to your blog, and I just love it. Did you draw plans to build the second floor or did you just wing it? If so, what materials did you use. I am sure you've addressed those questions in your blog, but I can't seem to find it. Again, beautiful work. Would that you could come to Atlanta and decorate my real house!

Glad you like it! The Reed chair is primer grey, I didn't have time to run out for more paint, but I was thinking of a bright teal maybe to add some color. But the primer turned out pretty cool, so I'll leave it as is for awhile.

I'm looking forward to being back home and working on it.

Heather Thanks! Relaxing indeed. Your house is really cool. Thanks for the link. :D

callsmall Glad I have your vote! :P The stairs really take the cake.

CM Merci! Hope you are having a great trip.

Doris Thanks so much! Have you have great holidays in your new place.

Hey Cindy You challenge in incredible. Your food is top notch, but I LOVE the tile on your display counters ad the case is really cool.

    Thanks Kikka!

Hey Jus! Glad you like it. How is progress on your house? Please send new pics when you can.

Allie Thank you! I hope you enjoy your Emerson, the originals are a little wonky, but I still really like the architecture. Good luck and welcome to the modern side!

Sandra It was a fun project, thanks. I hope you get a chance to build yours. I enjoyed the kit.

Welcome, glad you are enjoying the blog. I will post more info on the building the house in a week or two. For the upstairs I drew out the idea I had, but I winged it as a I made a few mistakes along the way. It's made of 1/4" MDF that I bought at Home Depot that I cut with a router. If I worked in real scale, I'd likely always go over budget as this is the third bed I tried in the room, and I went through a ton of chairs and tables before deciding on these.

More to come, I promise, just enjoying the holidays with family.

    mini smiles to all,
