Farewell Kaleidoscope House

We had a good run, but it's time to move on. I love my Kaleidoscope House but the colorful panels make it difficult to get the lighting you want and the floor plan is a bit tricky. I've debated swapping the panels out with clear plexi, but with the time and effort that would take, I might as well just build another house. So the KHouse has been relocated to a corner in the living room for the kids to play with. It's filled with the IKEA Lilabo dollhouse furniture, but is often stuffed with cars and legos.

Here is one last look before saying goodbye to "my" dollhouse.

Living room: Fixation bookcases, Efficient bookcase, trays and designer chair pillows are by me. Stag head by Dotsan (he now has a mini rhino and tiger head too!) Sectional, rug and coffee table are minimodernistas. Framed art, picture frame stand, decor, paintings, art books are PRD Miniatures. Orange barrel chairs are Welcome Home by Maryann Roy.

Kitchen/Dining: 3 piece modern kitchen set on ebay $35. Green IKEA bookcase and table by minimodernistas, chairs are Reac Japan.

Entry: Daybed and rug are PRD Miniatures, chairs are Reach Japan. Vases KHouse accessories and one of mine.

Accessories: Mighty World Town Cafe, Re-ment, Tap Plastics, CW Lubin, Petite Princess, Kaleidoscope House Accessories, ebay and dollhouse shop finds.

Bedroom 1: The bedrooms are so tiny! I took the headboard off the Kaleidoscope House accessories bed and reupholstered the footboard as the headboard. Frames are PRD Miniatures. Rugs, shell art and pillows are minimodernistas. Chair is Petite Princess. Wood cutouts are Kaiser Craft. Dresser is ebay find. Accessories are William Maranville, Gilbert Mena and dollhouse show finds.

Closet (small room between bedrooms, originally was the bathroom): Who needs a closet for clothes when you can have a closet full of toys. Ms. Pac Man arcade game is by Retro Heart. Robot heads are key covers from CB2. Can't remember brand name of animals from mom and pop store that went out of business. Stool is Lil' Bratz. Rug is free fabric sample.

Bathroom (technically bedroom 2): I finally have my modern bathroom set up courtesy of Studio Seven swap (mini*aesthetics); pedestal sink, mirror panel, accessories, bath salts, shorter plant, tub. Hatbox toilet is PRD Miniatures. iPad is lilu. Wood cutout is Kaiser Craft. Brown stools are HBS miniatures.com. Bath faucet is from minismodernas.com. Tower shelf and accessories are ebay find.

Patio: The wood cord and ModFire is from Meagan (tinyfixation) built from plans by Pepper (MitchyMooMiniatures). Verde plant and Ribb Chaise is PRD Miniatures. Green topiaries are place card holders from minis2b. White stools are HBS miniatures.com. Pillows by minimodernistas. Watch dog and chairs are CB2.

  1. Farewell kaleidoscope house, welcome exciting new project...
It's such a shame but just think of all the possibilities your new house will have. Well done for being brave and taking the plunge though, I can't wait to see what you come up with.
    Best wishes

  2. Oh how could you! Why not put it on Ebay, it would sell like a shot.... let another collector enjoy it. Nothing against kids, but they will wreck it in no time

    1. I'm not ready to part with it. My kids actually had it for a year until I got the Emerson, then we switched. My son has been begging to have the KHouse back. They've managed to not break anything in the last 2 1/2 years they've been playing with them, and they know it's still "Mommy's Dollhouse" so I feel like it's in good hands. I'm reluctant to sell it because I fear somewhere down the line I'll regret it, and at that point it will take more than the $350 I paid for it to replace it.

  3. At least you will still have access to it and you can borrow it from the kids. They will most likely follow in your footsteps and set up creative rooms.

    1. My thoughts exactly. For now, decorating consists of sorting the Lilabo random pieces. I must have bought 2-3 sets of stuff on ebay, so they like to put all 4 bunk beds in one room. All 3 desks in one room. Kitchen and bathroom pieces (all white pieces) in one room. Chairs in another room and tables in the last. They don't like the dolls though. I've given them the Kaleidoscope Dollhouse people and the IKEA Lilabo dolls and the pretty much only like to drop them down the fireplace. Which is a total pain because you have to shake the house upside down to get the pieces out (I think I just made a bunch of collectors cringe).

    1. I know, I know. But I think having my kids enjoy it, is better than it moving under a sheet in the garage. I have no plans to sell it; I'd always planned to give it to them anyway. I mean, how cool is it to have the most awesome dollhouse that none of your friends have?

But then again if someone offered me $1,000 for it I may change my tune. :P

    2. You're right of course. Who am I to tell you what to do with your mini houses? It's pure jealousy on my part, you realise =0D

  7. I have a used one for sale. Good condition. Unfortunately, the white has yellowed, but Brini Maxwell has the perfect solution! (There is a paste that can be used on white plastic that has yellowed - apparently it works.) I can be reached at rip shin at excite dot com, if anyone is interested. I have some of the furniture.

  8. That is "ripshin" - one word. Hate auto-spell correction.

  9. Plastic is good option for home decoration.
